If you've come to this page, it's because you want to learn to play the Ukulele. Genuinely, congratulations!
Learning anything musical is a great choice. Music often makes people happy, whether they're involved passively or actively. If you can learn to play, write, produce or record music, you're basically set (on a positive trajectory) for the rest of your life.
Our job, throughout your time with us, is to help you to become the best musician that you can be. That's why we offer a free first trial lesson - to see whether we can be of service to you.
We are here to ensure that you can accomplish your goals within our lessons, and we are here to answer any questions that you have throughout your musical journey. Please don't be afraid to ask any questions music-related, even if you feel they might not come out right - the more we know, the better off we'll be, wherever you go with your chosen of study.
Finally, thanks for visiting our humble website, and whatever happens - best of luck in future with music.
About The Tutor
Logan Ellis has been teaching Music for 8 years, and has spent 15 years studying music through Cashmere High School, the Christchurch School of Music, MAINZ (Te Tai Poutini Polytech) and the University of Canterbury.
He enjoys playing the Ukulele, and has the pleasure of offering you one-on-one lessons on a weekly basis, customized to suit your own personal goals and preferences.
Logan's main goal is to assist his students towards becoming the best musicians that they can be.
Lesson Times & Availability
We are able to teach up to 60 students per week. We offer lessons both in person, within our Music Studio in Laurence Street, Waltham and/or via Skype.
The remaining timeslots for Music Lessons are as follows:
- Wednesdays 2:30pm
- Thursdays 2:30pm
Our lessons are generally 30 minutes in length - although we can do hour lessons if you prefer.
While we understand that fortnightly lessons can be more convenient for some people, we do not offer fortnightly lessons. We have found that students perform better when coming in on a weekly basis.
Free first trial lesson for all new students!
One on One or Group Lessons?
From personal experience, Logan feels that one-on-one lessons are the best way to teach his students - this allows students to get the most practical experience during sessions. Parents are welcome to attend their child's lessons.
Entry Requirements for our Lessons
Our minimum requirements are that students are at least 6 years of age and understand the alphabet (Music Notation uses letters A-G). Total beginners are more than welcome.
Regarding Exams & Assessments
We can help you with preparing for Grading exams and/or NCEA assessments. We can also assist you in deciding upon setlists for live performances.
Expectations Regarding Practice
We don't expect you to practice for more than 2 x 20 minute sessions per week. We feel that it can be better to let our students aim for a lesser amount of time, and then encourage them to practice more if preferred.
The exception to this would be if an examination or performance was coming up. In that situation, we would expect our students to be practicing whenever possible, if not at least once per day.
How do payments work?
After the free first trial session, 30-minute lessons are $25 each. Payment options (for weekly lessons) are as follows: $50 per fortnight, $112.50 per half-term, or $225 per term.
Payments can be made via cash or direct debit (SPIDERHANDS PRODUCTIONS LTD, 06-0942-0352165-00).
Payment is due on the day of the first paid lesson.
